First Year as a First Grade Teacher
I am starting my first year as a first-grade teacher. I was a paraprofessional this past school year. This will be a huge change from being a paraprofessional and a teacher. Luckily I am teaching at the same school, and I know most of the incoming first-grade class and some of the parents.
I loved working with the children in that setting, but now it's time for me to move on to a new challenge! I am working on my Master of Education in Elementary Education and Special Education. I am taking classes online while working full-time as an educator.
I'm excited about this new opportunity because teaching first graders differs significantly from kindergarten. I have already taken steps to learn the new curriculum and met with some other first-grade teachers, who provided me with helpful advice. I also have support from my former kindergarten team and the administration at my school, which is great! It will be interesting to see how different teaching is from being a paraprofessional.
I hope this blog series will provide insight into my journey as a first-grade teacher. I have chosen to write about my experiences to share my knowledge and thoughts with other teachers, students, and parents. Teaching is one of the most rewarding careers, but it can also be one of the most challenging. I'm excited about this new chapter in my life and look forward to sharing my experiences with you!
